CARNIVORISM IS CANNIBALISM BY PROXY

CARNIVORISM IS CANNIBALISM BY PROXY

Every once in awhile I come out of my hypnotic programming and get a slap in the face from reality shock.

Right now, I'm on a bus heading home. It's Saturday night, 18th March 2017. This time last week I was annoyed and stunned all at once. Gosh! I was in my local supermarket and bumped into my friend who so happens to work there. She works at the deli counter - a strange morgue for farmyard animals; it creeps me out to stand there, thankfully, our deep conversations take the edge off.

This time last week we were busy shopping, scurrying like city rats in desperation to grab some supplies before the supermarket closes, I'm actually heading to the same supermarket now! I'm hoping to get there before it closes…

We met at the yogurt section by serendipity; she was looking for a new flavor to try, and I was looking to see if there were Vegan alternatives beyond soya. My friend recommended a dairy based yogurt, but that wasn't what annoyed me. I reminded her that I'm a Born Again Vegan and that I don't want to be a part of the dairy industries.
I then went into a bit of a speech that entails how cows are raped with artificial insemination and that the calves become veal. Furthermore, the cows are injected with hormones to increase lactation to the point whereby the udders become abnormally enlarged and very sore with an infection that bleeds into the milk.

WOW! Did I say that? My friend then replied, “Well, knowing that I still want my yogurt!” She laughed and grinned like a moron. She obviously thought that she was funny. But, once upon a time, that would've been my response. So, I was doubly annoyed! Then I became conscious and made an effort to transform my anger into something positive. I decided that saying something profound and true would have more or an impact.

“Once you become conscious you don't want to slip back into a deeper coma…”
You see, my friend fancies herself as being part of the “Truther” wave of awakening consciousness; she makes a great effort to research what's going on in plain sight. It was more important to reach my friend than to excoriate, thus alienating her. When you preach to the perverted they can become even more perverted in defiance and in defense of being belittled. That's not the ethos of Veganism - at least not to me! That's how I left it... I could see that my words managed to hit some kind of register.

FRIDAY, THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY
I was looking for some ideas for my next recipes and, fate intervened once again. My deli friend spotted me at the front end of the shop (the deli is situated at the back); I waved and continued shopping. Sometimes I try to shop incognito to avoid getting drawn into deep, deep conversations that see me getting home so late that it's not worth me cooking.

Anyway, seeing as my friend was behind the grotesque farmyard animal morgue counter, I felt it would be nice - as nice as nice can be with body parts on display - to make some time for her. I was sound in the knowledge of being able to leave when I wanted.

Once again, we got into a deep conversation and this time the topic was how we, the masses, are being brainwashed to eat meat and consume dairy products. Her son is currently bodybuilding and she was talking about him getting his source of protein from meat - beef in particular!

Amazingly, some rather compelling intelligence came out of my mouth…

“Think about the bull and how powerful he is… Where does he get his power from? It's from vegetation! So, instead of us humans going to the source of protein i.e. vegetables, we take what we think of as a shortcut by killing the bull and consuming his flesh. It's insane!”

This perplexed my friend and I kept reeling off some intelligent nuggets…

“Some of the most powerful creatures on the Earth are herbivores. Look at the gorilla! The gorilla eats nothing but fruit and veg. Then there are hippos and elephants… You don't see them eating meat…”

My friend doesn't say anything at this point… I can see that she's pondering on what I'm saying…

“There's no doubt that bodybuilders get protein from eating meat but they have to eat an awful lot in order to get a high protein content. Most of what's good in a piece of steak get destroyed in the cooking process. So, the best way to consume meat for the purpose of nutrition is to eat it raw.”

Her face contorts..,

“Your son would be better off eating plenty of green veg such as broccoli. Did you know that broccoli has more protein than a piece of steak?”

“No. I didn't know that…”

“We humans are really stupid; instead of going to the source we go to the middleman - meat! We should be eating fruit and vegetables and nuts! Meat takes a long time to digest (in our systems) and in the process, it's sitting there and rotting. I'm sure that this can't be doing the body any good…”

“No, I guess not…”
Above: Hemp based protein.

“Then look at all the meat-based diseases such as high cholesterol, and when the veins and arteries get clogged up it leads to heart problems… Then there's arthritis and other bone problems such as gout… Whenever I go for a health checkup, the nurse is always impressed that I've got very low cholesterol levels…”

“You eat healthily, don't you?”

“I try! I used to demolish whole chickens for dinner and could get through 90% of a turkey on Xmas! It's no surprise that I would fall asleep shortly after a Xmas glutton frenzy because my body was unable to deal with so much meat and processed foods at one time.

Look at all those cheeses! I must admit that I enjoyed cheese - especially goats cheese! But the reality is that they can clog up the arteries. And if you want calcium, you're better off looking at non-animal based sources. The cows don't feed off bones to make calcium, they eat grass!”

“You're making good points! I like how you're able to look at things from a logical perspective. What you're saying makes sense to me.”

“We're just being conditioned to accept that the consumption of meat is normal when it's totally the opposite of normal. When I flick through a fitness/bodybuilding magazine there's always the obligatory picture of steak just sitting there, and meat is a constant in the diet tips section. Not to mention these large tubs of protein powders with animal derivatives in them as the main sources of nutrition. These protein powders are nothing but a rip off! It's just animal based proteins and chemicals! People are being hoodwinked! We seldom take the time to think about these things because we are preoccupied with work, bills, entertainments, sleep, and work again. So, we see meat pictured with someone that looks fit and without thinking, most of us will pick up some meat for dinner, eating into the meat is healthy myth… It's a cannibalism by proxy as meat and dairy products eat into our bodies which stop it functioning on an optimal level.”

At that point, my friend had an influx of customers and I then waved goodbye, went home and cooked a Vegan recipe and shared it on my Vegan Recipes Blog: Bear Gene, Vegan For Life

BEAR, THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER GREEN BAY

BEAR, THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER

GREEN BAY LOCATION: LONDON, SOUTH KENSINGTON
GREEN BAY, LONDON'S FIRST VEGAN SUPERMARKET

I'm embarrassed to state that last week, I left my home too late in the day which left me a couple of hours to get to the Green Bay supermarket with about 30 minutes to shop before it closes. I got lost! The funny thing was that I was so close, I was about 5 minutes away and kept going the wrong way. Freaking, Google Maps! Bah!

Yesterday, I made sure that I left my home in good time to get to this much talked about Vegan supermarket! I like to travel by bus so that I can take in the sights. I also love to power-walk and I make a mental note of potential routes for future walks. So, it took me 4 buses to get there. If you're in Central London you need to take bus numbers 10 to Hammersmith and 28 to Mapleton Crescent. You get off at the Lillie Road stop and opposite you'll find Green Bay!

THE ARRIVAL
When I arrived, finally, I was a little disappointed to see how small it is. Anyway, I went inside and had a look…

The shop interior isn't too bad; it's just a tad on the claustrophobic scale, 2, 5 being the highest. I was told that the shop gets packed out and I was relieved to see that I was 1 of 2 customers in the shop. There again, I arrived with 40 minutes to shop; it closes at 20:00.

It drives me to distraction when I don't have space to shop. I hate bumping into people and vice versa. Not every Vegan is skinny! I'm not skinny and I need to get back to the gym very soon! Ha ha!

PRICEWISE
Well, given the shop location, it wasn't much of a surprise to find some goods marked with a high price tag. London, as you know, is a very expensive city and Central London is insanely costly! Property, rent, rates, etc are through the roof; these factors can and does affect the goods sold in shops (in and around Central London). Now, a Vegan supermarket, the only one of its kind, is not going to come cheap slap in the middle of Central London.

The range of chocolates was varied, however, I didn't see the brand that I used in my Sweet Choco Sensation recipe! Some of the prices were quite high - the higher the percentage of cocoa, the higher the price. I'm looking for another brand of chocolate for my next dessert recipe. I love chocolate!

Above: Vegan shampoos and other toiletries/cosmetics. It's good to know these things exist! But they are expensive!

Going back to chocolate… I was surprised to see that Green Bay didn't stock cocoa powder! In fact, Vegan cocoa powder has become scarce! These days, I'm finding products with labeling that states, “May contain milk…” This tells me that a Vegan based cocoa powder is going to cost me! It's crazy! Cocoa is a product that has no dairy in it in the first place! Surely, there has to be a way to create cocoa powder without cross contamination that's not going to cost the Earth? Grrrr!

MEAT ME IN THE MIDDLE

There were a number of meat substitutes that ranges from sausages to steaks and other forms of meat products. For some reason, these meat substitutes don't appeal to me. I've yet to use such substitutes in my recipes. I've decided to revisit tofu and to educate myself on it; I think I may have been misinformed on the subject of tofu and soya based products.

One of these days, I'll have to pick one of these meat substitutes and give it a try! I do prefer to make my own foods from scratch! I don't even use ingredients such as tomato paste. I certainly will not use ketchup! I can make my own! Some of the prices for these substitute meats were high - at least for me!

Here's an observation for you… A while back, before I became a Born Again Vegan, I used to buy baked beans with vegetable sausages that have egg whites in them! I didn't care! My thoughts were, “It ain't pork. Eggs aren't so bad…” Jeez, Louise! How could I have thought like that? The answer: Cognitive Dissonance. You know the truth but you think, “So what?” I digress…

CONCLUSION
I enjoyed Green Bay and I'll certainly be going there again. I bought a couple of items and with one of the items, I'll be making a recipe that I'll share with you soon!

The range of foods isn't that great but I'm sure that the range will keep expanding. I want to support this wonderful incentive in the hope that it'll expand to other areas. There's a lot of scope for a larger shop! Vegan might seem “niche” but when you think about it, Vegan encompasses raw fruit and vegetables, nuts and common cereals such as oats. We're there already! Green Bay is the first step.

If you like, Green Bay is everything that is Vegan in a shop like Whole Foods packed into a smaller outlet. The Whole Foods store is an okay store but I can do without smelling the cheeses, fish, and meat that's on sale. It gets on my nerves! Plus, it takes a good while to find Vegan based products. Green Bay is sandwiched between 2 Whole Foods stores on high street Kensington and the other in Fulham. And because Whole Foods is considerably bigger, the Kensington shop is on 3 floors, it's a miracle that Green Bay can exist! Thank goodness it does!
Green Bay is the future of Vegan shopping!

BEAR, LOOKING AT INGREDIENTS

BEAR, THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER
LOOKING AT INGREDIENTS

SAY WHAT?
Lately, I've been taking a closer look at the ingredients in Vegan food. What's really in 'em? I looked at a few ingredients in popular Vegan foods, and I can't say I'm impressed.

COCONUT MILK
I looked at all the different products pertaining to be “coconut milk” and it doesn't look good. The main ingredient is water, guar gum, and “coconut essence”. Is coconut essence an artificial flavoring? I would imagine that the way this product is created there's little or no nutritional value at all.

I don't think I'll be using such products in my cooking. I was looking at alternatives…

This product by Koko could be good. But after consuming a chocolate based coconut yogurt, I'm hesitant to give this a try.

Coconut cream looks like a good solution.

SAY CHEESE!
What does “Vegan flavour” actually mean?
And, it looks like guar gum is quite a popular thickener in many foods, including Vegan.

I reckon I'd be better off learning how to make my own Vegan cheese.
I will be giving these produces a miss!
I have noticed that in both Vegan and Vegetarian foods there is a need for many substitutional products to mimic dairy and meat. Why is this so? Me? I miss goats cheese, not as a food, but as a flavour. I can do without cheese and the need for a Veganized (that's my word) version that has dubious ingredients, but if I could find a decent natural Vegan food that has a similar flavour I'd be happy. Hmm… What could possibly taste rancid - like baby vomit - and be good for me?

To veer off into another tangent, I had the idea to produce breast milk products. Sometimes I come up with some weird ideas. I think consuming certain foods can alter the brain chemistry of which bizarre dreams is a by-product. Since becoming a Born Again Vegan, my dreams, or nightmares, come about from witnessing such cruelty in this world.

EGGY BREAKY HEART
I also came across some egg replacement products aimed at Vegans. I look at that stuff and I just wonder if crafty business folk make money from the idea that we need Vegan equivalents to eggs for breakfast and cooking in general. I don't think so!

I looked at Vegan Egg and saw the price tag, and realized that I was being sucked into the Matrix of buying into the simulation of the falsehood that happens to be everything non-Vegan.

PECULIARITIES
When I look at a carrot, I am not thinking, “How can I make this thing look like a chicken wing?” Sure, I get foods like burgers as it's a convenient way to consume vegetables in one patty. Still, one has to possess an awfully strange mind to look at a cow and envisage flesh molded into a circle sandwiched between bread. It's the same with the sausage. Who can look at a pig and think, “I can create penis shaped foods out of this creature,”?

Accept no substitutes!

Well, those are my thoughts of the day…

Thank you for reading!

BEAR THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER VEGAN CHOCOLATE 2 TESCO EXCLUSIVE

BEAR, THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER: VEGAN CHOCOLATE 2

I've just got back from the supermarket! I really appreciate 24hr opening times. However, I'm very conscious of the amount of energy wasted. Shouldn't these 24hr shops be running on alternative energies already?

Apologies for my insensitive sense of humour that I've edited out of the last article. That said, the fallout has inspired to write about my own eating disorders, weird ideas about food, and some people in my past who've had difficulties with eating, etc. That article will happen very soon! It might surprise you!

MORE VEGAN CHOCOLATE
I had to pop out to Tesco about an hour ago! I hate to shop late because I almost always end up having long conversations with various members of staff and locals! A shop at this time of night could end up taking hours! I can be chatty! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! LMAO!

I thought I'd take a closer look at Tesco's “Free From” section or sections, Vegan foods are scattered all over the shop floor!

Here, we have some interesting looking Vegan-friendly Fondant Truffles. But on the left, the chocolate wafers aren't Vegan! So, you can't assume that all the products will be safe. There have been times in the past when I thought “Free From” meant Vegan only to learn that this is not so.

I only pay close attention to the ingredients when something tastes so good that I would want to try to replicate it, and that’s when I find out! Nowadays, I look for the Vegan stamp of approval.

I used to love chocolate buttons as a child. As a Vegan Chef, I look for such Vegan-friendly items to use as cake/dessert decorations. It's good to know that I've got some options off the shelf.

I should've bought one of each to see what they taste like. I've had similar bars and they were either too sweet or didn't taste like chocolate. It's good to see a Vegan white chocolate bar. I used to be a Milky Bar Kid - until they ran out of Milky Bar Stars! I collected all those wrappers for nothing! Lol!

I wonder if these micro chocolate bars go down well with children. Children often want what the other children have. How do you, as a Vegan parent, cope with your child's or children's demands?

I think Tesco could do with stocking other Vegan specific brands! I guess that in my neck of the woods, Veganism is not popular enough. On the high road, there's some sort of meat based takeaway shop every 5 - 10 meters. It's horrendous!

Above: A good selection of nut butter and coconut oil. They have additional nut butter in the jam department.

Below: Some health food fruit 'n' nut bars, plus a very good and cost-effective Vegan (and non-Vegan) protein powder. They are marked up a little cheaper than most popular health shops such as Holland and Barrett.
Walking around the shop floor, I can see Vegan based foods in strange areas. There again, “health bars” are strategically placed in close proximity to the Chemist department. While you're waiting for your prescription of chemicals why not grab a Vegan health bar? They must be healthy because look how small and expensive they are!

Maybe one day there'll be a Vegan only section/aisle. I'd welcome that!

Above: Coconut based yogurt alternatives. I had the chocolate one a few moments ago and wished I hadn't.

Below: A fruit gel coconut based yogurt that I'd like to try. Hopefully, they'll prove more satisfying than the chocolate flavoured one!

I shall continue with my Vegan shopping observations.

BEAR THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER VEGAN CHOCOLATE

BEAR THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER: VEGAN CHOCOLATE

Hey, my Lovely Vegan Friends! How are you today? It was so nice out earlier! The Sun was out and it was quite warm; now it's cold 'n’ windy. It looks like it's going to rain.

I wanna ask you a question…

HOW VEGAN ARE YOU ABOUT YOUR CHOCOLATE?
On Facebook, I'm a member of many Vegan groups and a frequent subject matter is the authenticity of plain chocolate. I used to buy plain chocolate that's store branded and/or known brands such as Bournville feeling a little uneasy to read, “May contain milk, nuts, and soy…”

Nuts 'n’ soy, I don't have a problem with but I have a problem with milk. The manufacturing process of chocolate in general leads to cross contamination, I get that. Then I have to wonder, “If a particular bar is 70% cocoa solids then what's the make-up of the remaining 30%? I need to look into this in more detail. As a Born Again Vegan, I'm very careful about what I'm consuming. I can't abide by “may”. I've gotta know!

So, last week I decided to go shopping around my area in Enfield to see how easy or hard it would be to find chocolates specifically aimed at us, Vegans!

Lidl, Enfield Town
Although there was a great range of plain chocolate selections, I did not see anything marked “suitable for Vegans”. They had some lovely looking fruit 'n’ veg for what it lacked in Vegan chocolate!

Sainsbury's, Great Cambridge Road
Here, there's a massive selection of plain chocolate up to 90%! I asked a couple of store assistants with regards to these products - especially the 90% variety by Lindt. I was told that the ingredients aren't strictly of a Vegan nature.

Sexist? Me? Well, I found the female was very knowledgeable about the products and guided me to the “Free From” product area. She showed me a selection of Vegan bunnies! I'm a grown man, not a child! Lol! I'm kidding. But, hey! The idea of eating food made into an animal form isn't Vegan! We love bunnies! We don't want to eat them - not even chocolate ones!

I had expected to see a selection of Sainsbury's own Vegan chocolates and saw a very small range of branded chocolates - small being the operative word! Those things were tiny! Why bother with all the wrapping and manufacturing process to produce bite-sized chocolate bars? One bite and it's all over. What a letdown!

I did see some other Vegan chocolate bars. One was by Moo Free but I wasn't sure about the ingredients that was in 'em. And the bar as pictured above. £1.50! What? You're having a laugh! Well, a little chuckle! I observed that we seem to be paying less for nonpure chocolate and so much more for natural pure chocolate with nothing taken out. Huh? Milk and non-Vegan plain chocolates have things added to it and are cheaper. Pure chocolate requires permission from your bank manager to purchase!

Anyway, I left Sainsbury's feeling quite happy about the selection of Vegan chocolates.

Morrison's, Southbury Road
This used to be my favorite supermarket and it looks like I may be going back on a regular basis! It's the only supermarket that stocks my favorite apples, Russets! And the only supermarket that had black uncut kale that I needed for a recipe! Woohoo!

It's quite a huge shop and I had to ask for guidance! I didn't have all day! I asked yet another male and female pair of assistants. Typically, the male didn't have a clue… Mind you, I did ask for the “health food section”. Even though the female was a little perplexed, she brought me to my knees when I saw the chocolate that I just bought in Sainsbury's for less!

Still, it's good to know that Morrison's had a quite a decent selection of Vegan based foods.

Look at the Vegan vegetable stock cubes… Only 50p! WOW! That's almost a £1 off - depending on where you go! Planet Organic sells them for about £1.65! Gosh!

Tesco, Southbury Road
This is my second home - or it used to be! When I had my car, I would jump in and drive to get some supplies when I used to do vampire hours! I got a Moontan! I'd spend a considerable amount of time reading the magazines - hey, it beats recycling the things!

Tesco was very, very disappointing with regards to Vegan chocolate! None! It's frustrating as they have a range of - what would you call these things? Uhm, cereal type of bars… You know, bars like Trek. Tesco has its own coconut oil brand for £3 a time. Not bad! They also have “Free From” section that NEEDS some more products. I'd love to be a stock buyer for Tesco! It's got great potential!

Besides, I don't really wanna go traipsing from one shop to the other! It's shopping for crying out loud, not Raiders of the Lost Ark!

That about wraps up this article! I'll be visiting more supermarkets in due course!

Thanks for reading!

BEAR AT PLANET ORGANIC, BIO BODY FUEL - VEGAN POWER

BEAR, THE NOT SO MYSTERIOUS SHOPPER!

#Vegan #Veganism #Organic #Planet #PlanetOrganic #OrganicFood #weight #loss #weightloss #worms #mealworms

Hi, Vegan and non-Vegan Friends! I am Blue Bear Gene! My Friends call me "Bear". I am a Born Again Vegan! Whoop whoop! It is great to be back! I am eating well and feeling better than ever! Here I am, I am here and sharing my experiences with YOU!

PLANET ORGANIC

London... Wow... What can I say about London that you don't already know, huh? I have left it a couple of times to experience new cities in new countries. Interesting stuff... Hmmm... But I have always missed living in London. London is quite unique; sure, compared to Germany, for example, I think that London has a way to go. The one thing that I didn't miss about London when I was away is the pollution. I may as well take up smoking a freaking car! It's ironic that London should have a high concentration of health food shops! Probably the most in the UK! I shudder to think what gets inside my lungs and on my skin just travelling 30 mins in the area where I live let alone taking a bit of a trek to Central London!

One of my favourite health food shops is Planet Organic. Whenever I am in Central London I have to stop in at Planet Organic to refuel! Bio Body Fuel! They have some great Vegan food! The prices are pretty reasonable! You should try the Vegan "Bulletproof" coffee! It is lovely! Although Planet Organic is not strictly Vegan, there is a wide selection of Vegan-friendly products to enjoy!

I travel on the bus as I love looking at the scenery; I don't know why I travel with so many magazines in my backpack as I seldom read them, I am so busy looking out the window. I hate the frenetic London Underground - it really is a Tube! The Tube can get really stressful! Anyway, if I am coming into Central London via Finsbury Park or via a walk from London Bridge into the Oxford Circus area, I have to get something to munch on! Oh, if I stop off at the famous Camden Town I would walk into Central London from there!

At the moment I am into Vegan protein and non-protein based bars as I am, er, test marketing! Or should that be "taste-marketing"? Anyway, I am on a personal mission... Hush, hush... I hope to reveal all at some point.

I love to go upstairs and take the weight off...

WEIGHT LOSS

From January to August 2016, I was struggling with my weight! I As I stated in a previous blog, I was in agony from the pain in my feet. So, I decided to ditch the meat and eggs once and for all. I was never into cows milk and dairy anyway. I decided to clean up my act, eat as clean as possible and join the gym. I say "eat as clean as possible" because I would ideally like to buy organic each and every time! However, the last time I was considering organic broccoli I had to take into consideration the parasitic infestation! The thought of inadvertently munching on some kind of worm strain was a bit much...

You can't really beat eating Vegan and exercise for natural weight loss. In the picture below you can see that I have lost a bit of weight in my face. I must admit that I have been pretty busy these last couple of months and I've not been to the gym in while... I need to get back in there asap!

Above:
Jamuna (a staff member of Planet Organic) and yours truly!

A PACKET OF WORMS

How do you feel as a Vegan about insects as food? I once had the idea to cook with insects but now that I am a Born Again Vegan the thought has left my mind. I was once obsessed with getting a good source of protein and I realized that there's enough protein in good vegetables such as broccoli! I was watching this program on Sky (a few years ago), when I had cable, and it featured a trend to serve up insects and grubs in South African restaurants... It did look like a challenge that I was curious to take. However, today, I am totally against taking any form of life for my sustenance - especially when it is not necessary! It does make me wonder as to our drinking water that comes from the tap! I wonder how many lifeforms are in a single class when put under the microscope...

Hmm... I think I will invest in a chemistry set (for adults) - I am sure I have seen such chemistry sets in the shops (admittedly, many Moons ago).

VEGAN CHEF/COOK

I am still preparing myself to be a Vegan Chef/Cook. As much as I love working on the PC in the name of Graphic & Multimedia Design and Social Media Marketing, I am bored of the isolation this type of work can bring. I am also wary that some of the companies that I work with aren't geared towards ethical living. This year, I am looking to change my life completely! I want to earn a living from an industry that isn't exploitative - in a negative way. It is remarkable how manufacturers seemed programmed to do whatever it is they do even though it is ruining this beautiful Earth. Rather than have a rethink, they go to the next batch of undamaged land to do ravage it like the last batch. We are running out of time!

I am constantly thinking up ways to promote ethical living. I want to use my skills in IT, Creative IT (Graphic/Multimedia Design) to promote ethical living. I want to combine career as a Vegan Chef/Cook with Creative Design & Marketing! There has gotta be a job like that out there for me! I can feel it somehow! Ask the Universe and it shall be given! Well, I am asking!

Thank you for reading!
